Woman sentenced to stoning receives new punishment
    Middle East Star
    Sunday 5th September, 2010

The Iranian woman who had been sentenced to death by stoning, will now be flogged for immodesty after the Times newspaper in London published a picture of a woman without a headscarf.

Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, the Iranian woman condemned to death by stoning after being found guilty of adultery is now facing another excruciating punishment, according to her son, Sajjad Qaderzadeh.

Qaderzadeh said the reason for the new punishment is that the UK’s Times of London supposedly printed the photo of his mother without a hijab.

According to Qaderzadeh, the photo is of another woman altogether.

The British newspaper has already apologized to Ashtiani’s lawyer Mohammad Mostafaei for the publication.

The photo published in the Times is believed to have been that of human rights activist Susan Hajarat, an Iranian exile living in Sweden.

Qaderzadeh has said the punishment may not yet have been carried out, due to a pending appeal.

Ashtiani has not been permitted visitors for the last two weeks, not even her family or lawyer, and she is forbidden to telephone them.

Last month Ashtiani appeared on television to "confess" to alleged crimes.

During the broadcast she also denounced her lawyer.

But sources close to Ashtiani said she had undergone daily torture before the television appearance.
