Iran sets up court to try Israelis for Gaza incursion
Middle East Star
Tuesday 30th December, 2008
Iran has threatened to set up a court system to try any Israelis involved in air attacks on Gaza.
Judiciary officials in Tehran have said those Israelis who have committed so-called war crimes, will be tried in absentia.
A spokesman said the court would be given the task "of dealing with the executors, planners and officials of the Israeli regime who have committed crimes."
He said the court had been set up on the basis of a 1948 UN convention on the prevention of genocide to which Iran is a signatory.
Iran does not recognize Israel and has criticized some Arab states for not doing enough to stop the military action against Gaza.
Iran's top authority, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has called on all Muslims to defend Palestinians however they can.
